Balticon 2012 - Exciting New Workshop Conducted by TJ Perkins and Maria Snyder

May 25-27 Balticon 2012 Hunt Valley Marriott Hotel. TJ will be conducting a Workshop with Maria Snyder - using characters from Celtic/Norse lore and myths, implementing your Gods/Goddesses and breathing reality into them. Pathworking to 'meet' your special deity and fun/challenging writing exercises. Space limited. Sign up early!

I must say I'm extreemly excited about this and who better to share this experience than with my friend and NY Times best selling author Maria Snyder.

In the search for new fantasy material and characters, writers are dipping into these very ideas and ideals and breathing new life into them. Take Kevin Hearn for example. He's laid the ground work for a new type of fantasy that will flouish over time. This will be a fun workshop and I look forward to sharing what I know with Balticon participants.

Upcoming Events

Classification Changed and Otakon Weekend is Hot!

TJ Perkins to be at B&N inner harbor Baltimore the weekend of Otakon on July 30th from 1pm to 3pm.  Just 4 blocks from the convention center, B&N is always jammed packed.  TJ will be on the 2nd level in the center of the manga/anime and Teen sections to promote Art of the Ninja: Earth (Shadow Legacy series).   Reviewers and readers alike have proclaimed that this book is a cross-genre of fantasy/manga for teens.  What started out as adult fantasy has now been changed.  Silver Leaf Books hears you readers and has complied - woo hoo!

Actually, this has come as quite a surprise.  Neither TJ or the publisher would've thought this would every happen, but it did - cross-genre with fantasy/manga.  Wow!  Who'da thunk?

The Balticon Experience

Balticon is now over, but the experience was wonderful.  This was the first time presenting myself as a fantasy author. Mostly people recoginzed me as a YA mystery author, but soon after made the connection.

Networking, making new friends and meeting such creative people was a blast.  I now have connections for authors looking for amazing editors, proofreaders and cover designers.  Feel free to inquire.

Ninja Magic

OK, what is ninja magic?  Realistically it's a form of trickery a ninja uses to intimidate their oponent, to strike fear or to manipulate the situation to their advantage.  The ninja in Shadow Legacy do the same thing, but their magic is within as well as without.

We all have great inner strength and inward magic.  How we use it is up to us.  To achieve great control and focus is a must for projecting magic.  It will enable you to  project a sound, forcing your oponent to look away; project a vision for only a split second to confuse them; or to actually make them feel like time is standing still.  With their movements sluggish and the feeling of being overwhelmed and controled, your oponent will begin to succumb to their own demise.

The achievement of ninja magic takes years of practice, patience, focus and lots of meditation - something Duncan hates.

But beware the Dark Ninja Arts.  For centuries, debate has been tossed around as to exactly what is ethical to use and what is considered unethical to use.  The goal of the ninja is to win - no matter what - so some say it doesn't matter how you kill your target.  Still others feel that there is no honor in killing through horrific trickery.
